Just wanted to thank you for your health info pages. I have been off the Berner L for months and pretty much out of touch with what is happening in the Berner world. I am listed as a Berner contact person for aseptic meningitis and was just so glad to find one site with so much information to pass on to others! Within the last 6 mos. have been contacted by a number of people with this problem and while I am happy to help in any way, your site will now be added to my responses. Thanks so much for making this info accessable! Jeanne I do have one other document on aseptic meningitis I have been sending to people. If you are interested I would be happy to send it to you.

I recently lost my 6mth old Berner to Kidney Dysplsia, looking through your pages this doesn't seem to be something common with this breed. Though the parents have tested NEG the breeder has informed me, I'm still concerned about getting another pup, ANY ADVISE???????

Robin:
Have you ever heard of "Swinging Torsion" -- I tried a search on the web and came up with some nasty little sites and nothing on a canine condition.
Just wondering...

Hi What a handy site on Bernese Health a great place to send prospective puppy buyers. This way they will be totally informed of the negative side of the Bernese and be able to make the right choice for them and of course the breed. Maureen

Your web site has been a great help and source for links and and information on cancer and heart failure for our cocker spaniel. It has been the best source to help us to learn and understand the problems we find ourselves with our 10 year old Charlie.

About a month ago I met my first Bernese Mountain Dog and fell in love. This dog was being used to promote giving to the
Seeing-Eye Dog Fund centered in Moncton, NB. He had been a seeing-eye dog but his master had recently died and he was now
semi-retired. The lady who now has him is considered legally blind but can see a little. Her husband is totally blind and has a dog of his own.
This Bermese, "Bismark" was the most beautiful animal I have seen in a long time and now I am trying to get as much information as
I can about these beautiful dogs. I wish there was someone breeding them in the Maritimes. Do you know of any?
If you do would you please send me their address, phone #, and e-mail address if they should have one. I've enjoyed your web page so much.
Thank you for adding to my knowledge.

Hi - my beautiful BMD will be 12 next week, he has had arthritis for over 2 years but still enjoys long twice daily walks, his dinner and cleaning his little sister's (a collie cross) ears! Anyone know the average age of a Bernese? I understand it to be around 7. The secret of his longevity is, I think, oodles of love, good food and lots of exercise - in that order!

I decided to visit "home" (BMD/Berner L) and linked to the health issues. Thank you, Robin! Our Berner has two of the health concerns you list (a.meningitis & hip dysplasia). Your site also has already been passed to another who's dog has been diagnosed with cancer. In no small way, that is what this is all about, reaching out to others... Jeanne
