-Unfortunately, Bernese Mountain Dogs are susceptible to certain health problems.  Although many of these conditions are known to be hereditary, nutrition and other environmental factors may influence the development of some diseases.  Responsible breeders screen their dogs for the more common genetically transmitted disorders; however, none of the currently available tests are absolutely foolproof, and even cleared parents may produce an affected offspring.
